Club SciKidz MD

Club SciKidz MD offers hands-on activities such as building a rocket, building a robot, learning crime-solving skills like blood and fingerprint analysis, and making chewing gum. Camp themes include activities in veterinary medicine, robotics, forensics, video game creation, food science, paleontology, engineering, chemistry, biology, astronomy, oceanography, emergency medicine, and special effects.

Club SciKidz was established in 1997, and its first summer camp was called “Special Effects.” Beginning in 2001, Camp Young Scientist was created to accommodate children ages 6–8. Over ten years, Victor Bowman grew Club SciKidz MD from 250 campers at two locations to thousands of campers at over 15 locations, and he retired in December 2018. Since 1997, more than 60,000 children have attended Club SciKidz science day camps and school programs.

The leadership team includes Victor Bowman, Founder of Club SciKidz Maryland, and Bob and Sue Hagan, Co-founders of Club SciKidz. Victor Bowman earned his Master’s in Education and taught science for Baltimore County Public Schools for several years. Bob and Sue Hagan have a combined 30 plus years of teaching experience and both hold a Master’s Degree in Education.

Part of the stated mission at Club SciKidz Maryland is to nurture in children a life-long passion for inquiry and discovery and to support STEM education in the state of Maryland. The program description states that the skills children take away from Club SciKidz will prove invaluable in an increasingly technical world and that the organization looks forward to working with families and communities to promote scientific and STEM literacy in the Baltimore area. The company states that it was founded on the principle that parents want to provide their children with exciting, challenging, and life impacting academic enrichment experiences, and it is committed to demonstrating how science works in the real world through activities in veterinary medicine, robotics, forensics, video game creation, food science, paleontology, engineering, chemistry and biology, astronomy, oceanography, emergency medicine, and special effects.

For summer 2026, Club SciKidz MD lists over 45 different camp programs, including STEAM, engineering and robotics, programming and coding, film making and effects, technology and innovation, and video game design camps. The organization also offers year-round STEM programs, after school STEM programs, science assemblies, in-school field trips, and days off school or vacation break programs. Its science programs are described as unique and designed to meet the needs of children ages 4–15, with carefully researched science lessons that engage students in observation, measurement, identification of properties, and experimentation involving life, earth, and physical science concepts. The lessons are described as rigorously researched by science educators with the help of teachers and children.

The organization states that its interactive programming also serves to support STEM education in the state of Maryland and that it looks forward to working with families and communities to promote scientific and STEM literacy in the Baltimore area. Its after school programs are run through Howard County Rec & Parks.
