Club SciKidz was established in 1997, and the first summer camp was called “Special Effects,” which taught campers the science involved in Hollywood’s special effects techniques. Beginning in 2001, Camp Young Scientist was created to accommodate children ages 6–8, and there are now over 50 science camp themes offering projects and experiments for kids ages 4–15. Since 1997, more than 60,000 children have attended Club SciKidz’s science day camps and school programs, and Club SciKidz operates multiple summer day camp locations each year in Georgia, with franchises in Maryland, Kentucky, and Texas. Club SciKidz is described as one of America’s finest summer science and technology camps and was founded on the principle that parents want to provide their children with exciting, challenging, and life impacting academic enrichment experiences.

Club SciKidz Maryland states that part of its mission is to nurture in children a life-long passion for inquiry and discovery and to support STEM education in the state of Maryland. The program states that the skills children take away from Club SciKidz will prove invaluable in an increasingly technical world and expresses a goal of working with families and communities to promote scientific and STEM literacy in the Baltimore area.

The leadership team includes Victor Bowman, Founder of Club SciKidz Maryland, and Bob and Sue Hagan, Founders of Club SciKidz. Victor Bowman earned his Master’s in Education and taught science for Baltimore County Public Schools for several years, and he used his business experience and his passion for science and education to build Club SciKidz MD for over ten years before retiring in December 2018. Bob and Sue Hagan have a combined 30 plus years of teaching experience and both hold a Master’s Degree in Education.
