About
It Takes a Village to Help Our Children, Inc. offers after school and summer programs that include homework help, tutoring, academic support, and academic enrichment. The program also offers college and career prep, including college and career access programs and touring colleges, along with character development, meals, recreational activities, and field trips. It operates as a 21st Century Community Learning Center and provides afterschool, summer, and college and career access programs to more than 200 at-risk youth each year.

In 2009, It Takes A Village Organization, Inc. and Help Our Children Foundation, Inc. merged to form It Takes A Village To Help Our Children, Inc. The mission of the program is to engage the “village” to help build a better future for children by providing activities designed to promote their spiritual, social, and educational well-being so that they can reach their fullest potential. The organization is a 501(c)3 non-profit located in Crisfield, Maryland, and serves children on both ends of Somerset County, Maryland. It has been featured on the Governor’s Office for Crime Control and Prevention website under Promising Practices, and its Executive Director received a Certificate of Excellence from MSDE 21st Century After School Programs for lights on support to Maryland’s after school programs. The program is the only afterschool program operating Monday through Friday in its community and serves more than 200 youth ages 5 to 17. Afterschool and summer programs have been operated at 943 West Main Street in Crisfield, Maryland, until the Dr. H. Dwyane Whittington Multicultural Center is completed.
