Frostburg State University's Upward Bound Program is one of over 1,000 national, federally funded, pre-college programs and is one of the Federal TRIO Programs. Upward Bound, the oldest of the Federal TRIO Programs, has been a part of the FSU community since 1980 and operates year-round with both an Academic Year Program and a Summer Residential Program. The program is funded by the United States Department of Education to serve 89 students who attend high school in Allegany County, Maryland, and students are accepted on a year-round basis after completion of the eighth grade and may remain through the summer after high school graduation. The program also hosts a Senior Week for rising 12th graders that highlights the college planning and financial aid processes, and graduating seniors have the opportunity to earn college credit prior to their freshman year in college by attending Upward Bound's Bridge Program during the summer.
