About
Frostburg State University Upward Bound Program offers enrichment classes, tutoring, supplemental academic instruction, and SAT/ACT preparation, along with academic advising and career development. The program also includes financial aid assistance, college visits, educational trips, and other enrichment activities. It has two main parts: an Academic Year Program and a Summer Residential Program, and students are accepted on a year-round basis and may apply upon completion of the eighth grade and remain through the summer after high school graduation.

• Schedule: Enrichment classes, tutoring, and academic and career advising are held on 12 selected Saturdays and on an as-needed basis during the academic year; the Summer Residential Program offers a 3-week session for new students and a 5-week session for returning students
• Price: Upward Bound pays for all costs associated with being a participant.
Frostburg State University Upward Bound Program is one of over 1,000 national, federally funded, pre-college programs and is one of the Federal TRIO Programs. It is funded by the United States Department of Education to serve 89 students who attend high school in Allegany County, Maryland. Upward Bound is the oldest of the Federal TRIO Programs and has been a part of the Frostburg State University community since 1980. The program’s mission is to provide students with the skills and motivation necessary to succeed in high school and afterwards in college, to provide fundamental support in preparation for college entrance, and to provide opportunities for participants to succeed in their pre-college performance and in their higher education pursuits. The Summer Residential Program includes living in a residence hall and taking classes on a college campus, and it hosts a Senior Week for rising 12th graders that highlights the college planning and financial aid processes. Graduating seniors can earn college credit prior to their freshman year in college by attending Upward Bound’s Bridge Program during the summer.
