KidsCo Inc. was incorporated in 1998 and began as just one summer camp program. The organization grew from one before and after school program in 2000 to operating 19 elementary school before and after school programs in Montgomery County. In 2006, its sister company KidsCo Jr. was created to bring KidsCo’s standards into the infant, toddler, and preschool child care market. Jay Gerson started KidsCo and remains active in the day-to-day happenings of all KidsCo programs.
The mission of KidsCo Inc. is to provide a safe and comfortable place where children are allowed to explore their creativity and make choices, and where children and parents have a relationship with KidsCo team members and feel a sense of family and community. The mission states that the primary goal is to create a program that fits the needs and desires of the children who participate in the KidsCo program. KidsCo describes itself as “the Kids’ Company” and as a place that offers kids, parents, and staff the ultimate experience in summer and after school programming. It is described as a place where kids take the reins and work together with highly qualified staff to create a loving, stimulating, and engaging environment, and where staff members are given specialized training and rewarded for their hard work. The program states that it is a place that parents can trust to protect, nurture, and teach their children while they are not in their care.
