KidsCo was incorporated in 1998 and began as one summer camp program, later growing from one before and after school program in 2000 to operating 19 elementary school before and after school programs in Montgomery County. In 2006, KidsCo’s sister company KidsCo Jr. was created, and in the summer of 2014, six day camps and two travel camps operated across the county. The company reports that it currently makes a difference in over 1000 families’ lives each year and touches the lives of many Montgomery County children and local families each day. KidsCo was started by Jay Gerson, who remains active in the day-to-day happenings of all KidsCo programs. Several KidsCo sites are Maryland Accredited, including Brown Station ES, Capt. James Daly ES, Damascus ES, Fallsmead ES, Flower Hill ES, Little Bennett ES, Pine Crest ES, Sequoyah ES, Strawberry Knoll ES, and Waters Landing ES. The organization also notes that it employs a large and qualified core management team and an exceptional group of program directors, and describes itself as “the Kids’ Company.”
