Since October 18, 2002, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington – Germantown Club has been providing before and after school programs and summer camp programs for youths in the Germantown, Gaithersburg, and Clarksburg community. The mission of the Club is to help boys and girls of all backgrounds, especially those who need it most, build confidence, develop character and acquire the skills needed to become productive, civic-minded, responsible adults. The Club serves over 550 youths throughout the year, with an average daily attendance of 120 club members, and its programs serve children in 1st through 12th grade. Members logged over 350 service hours within the last year.

The Club follows a strategy from its National Headquarters that focuses on Academic Success, Good Character and Citizenship, and Healthy Lifestyles. Power Hour is designed to raise the academic proficiency of participants ages 6 to 12 with a comprehensive homework tutoring program. The SMART Moves prevention and education program addresses problems such as drug and alcohol use and premature sexual activity. SMART Girls are encouraged to adopt healthy attitudes and make wise lifestyle decisions. Passport to Manhood promotes and teaches responsibility in Club boys ages 11 to 14. Money Matters promotes financial responsibility and independence among Club members ages 13 to 18. Triple Play focuses on a “recipe for success”: eat smart, keep fit, and maintain healthy relationships with peers and adults. Career Launch is a program for teens ages 13–18 that helps them choose a college or career path and offers workshops that teach interview skills, resume writing skills, and academic support.

The Club has a recognition program where each week every member has a chance to be recognized in their age group for outstanding participation in after-school programs. A single Youth of the Year is selected to represent the Club in a nation-wide competition to find that year's “Club Kid.” A program for 15 middle-school members forms a young leadership development group where they elect officers and plan and carry out service projects for the Club and community. Club members ages 14 to 18 also elect leaders and coordinate community service projects on behalf of the organization. The organization states that it welcomes every child for a nominal annual membership fee and will not turn any child away for inability to pay.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington operates 26 sites that serve as safe havens for members and are open when schools are not, providing an alternative to being home alone or on the street. BGCGW serves nearly 12,000 youth annually through regular Club membership and community outreach. The organization notes that families can read about its Charity Navigator 4-STAR rating. The Germantown Club’s schedule includes Early Discovery before-school hours Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM, Project Discovery after-school hours Monday through Friday from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and summer hours Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM.
