About
Greenbelt Children's Center offers play-based activities and fun, engaging lessons for pre-kindergarteners. The program’s school philosophy focuses on learning through play-based activities, and it includes a Summer Program designed to build and nurture creativity in children. The preschool emphasizes cultivating curiosity, exploration, and observation skills in young children and places importance on instilling a joy of learning and a love of school in a child’s first preschool experience. Families are encouraged to help their child with language and literacy in five areas of language: building vocabulary and language skills, learning about books and print, developing comprehension, learning about letters, and learning about sounds in words. The program is described as “Where Play and Learning Happen.”
Greenbelt Children’s Center states that its mission is to provide high quality, culturally appropriate, and diverse early childhood education and care through play-based, developmentally appropriate practices that enrich children’s cognitive, social, physical, and emotional development. The programs are designed to allow parents to be involved in their child’s education, and the center believes that collaboration between parents and teachers is essential for success in school and life. Greenbelt Children’s Center has earned four Maryland EXCELS Achievement Badges: Quality Business Practices, Asthma Friendly Child Care, Health and Wellness, and Accredited Center. The center is licensed by the MSDE Office of Child Care under License #32977. The institution states that, in accordance with federal civil rights law and U.S. Department of Agriculture civil rights regulations and policies, it is prohibited from discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), disability, age, or reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity. The center notes that visits have been paused due to Covid and will resume when it is believed to be safer, and it describes having a dynamic team of faculty and staff that is excited to meet families.
