About

Ancestral Knowledge Youth & Teen Programs and Camps are 100% outdoor programs that include forest exploration, games, and hands-on projects. Participants are introduced to animal tracking techniques, nature awareness, plant and tree identification, basic survival skills, primitive skills demonstrations, fire by friction demonstration, and basic stone tool making.

• Ages: 5–17 years old
• Schedule: Homeschool programs run from September through June and meet once a week
• Price: Demonstration Pricing: 1–3 hours $375 (30 students max); Field Day Pricing: 2–5 hours $375 – $725 (up to 30 participants)

The programs are drop-off programs with age-appropriate activities, and financial aid is available for those in need of assistance. All programs intertwine two teaching methods: Experiential Education, described as “learning by doing,” and Coyote Teaching, described as “guiding not giving.” Presentations are student interactive and include passing around many primitive tools and natural materials for discussion and investigation, and staff include very knowledgeable and experienced field instructors who share the life skills of ancestors. The mission of Ancestral Knowledge Youth & Teen Programs and Camps states that, using nature and the wilderness as the classroom, the organization offers hands-on experiential learning through the study of tracking, awareness, and philosophies that support a sustainable lifestyle. Ancestral Knowledge is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and was the first organization in the DC Metro Area to offer educational programs in this field of expertise. The organization offers its outdoor education programs to Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America, public, private, and charter schools, homeschool groups, and universities, and will come to outside locations for hands-on demonstrations. For overnight camps, required forms include a release waiver, Field Form, camper health history, and Medical Information Form, and the overnight camps are described as a 100% outdoor camping adventure. Summer Camp and Overnight Camp registration both open January 1st. One homeschool parent shared that their child returned to Ancestral Knowledge because she enjoyed it so much, and that they appreciated the knowledge, kindness, and care provided by specific instructors.
