Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford & Cecil Counties Programs include an After School Program, Licensed Child Care, a Summer Enrichment Program, and a mobile Club on the Go initiative. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County began in 1990 in Aberdeen, Maryland, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cecil County was chartered in 1999; in 2018, the two merged to become the largest Boys & Girls Clubs in Maryland, now serving more than 7,500 youth annually. Neighborhood-centered Clubs provide programming in specialized areas that include character development, educational enhancement, and career exploration, and the organization is known for serving more kids, more often. The Board of Directors received a 2017 Silver Award from the Boys & Girls Clubs of America for engagement and 100% individual contributions in 2016. A group of community leaders, teachers, the mayor, and a city commissioner worked together to create a safe and educational alternative for after school programming, and with assistance from AmeriCorps NCCC, locations opened at Rising Sun Middle School, Perryville Middle School, and Freeman Hall in Port Deposit. The organization also offers licensed care in several school locations in Harford, Cecil, and Kent Counties, and provides a dedicated facility for after-school activities rather than using only classrooms in a school. Club on the Go is described as a revolutionary mobile initiative that provides both youth development programming and food access to under-resourced communities.
