About
Good Counsel Summer Camps offers activities such as arts & crafts, games, movies, and recreational play in the gym. Campers in After Care may choose from these activities during the afternoon.
• Schedule: Campers are allowed to report to camp beginning at 8:30 a.m., and After Care is available daily from 3:00 p.m.–5:30 p.m.
• Price: A non-refundable deposit of $100 is required for all camps at registration. The cost per camper for After Care is $100 per week, and the cost per camper for the lunch plan is $55 per week. Concession items are available daily for cash-only payment, including sports drinks for $3.00, bottled water for $1.00, regular size candy for $1.75, share size candy for $2.75, chips for $2.75, and ice cream for $2.00.
Registrations for Good Counsel Summer Camps are processed on a first come, first serve basis, and an online application is required for each camper on the individual camp web pages. Good Counsel Summer Camps will be open on June 19th, and there is no pro-rated pricing for campers who are absent. After Care includes a snack and drink, and campers may choose to bring lunch from home or purchase a weekly lunch plan; any lunch brought from home should not need to be refrigerated or heated. All campers are expected to bring a full water bottle labeled with their name each day, and the daily lunch menu includes a main entrée, chips, a 16.9 oz bottle of water, and a treat.
In the case of inclement weather, camp is moved indoors, and during extended periods of rain or severe weather, camp may close early or be canceled. Parents or guardians are contacted by email if camp is closing early, and campers are permitted to contact their parents or guardians by phone in that situation. The camp follows strict attention to the heat index, bringing campers indoors if it is too hot, providing shaded areas, and taking frequent water breaks, and camp directors and counselors seek immediate medical attention if a camper shows symptoms of illness related to heat.
Campers are met by counselors and escorted to their camp activities in the morning, and specific drop-off and pick-up locations and instructions are emailed before the child’s week of camp. An immunization record must be submitted for any student who attends a school outside the state of Maryland, and forms are available for medication self-administration, Epi-pen or inhalers, and medical care plans.
Our Lady of Good Counsel High School, which runs Good Counsel Summer Camps, was founded in 1958. The leadership team includes Lauren Costello, Director of Auxiliary Programs (also listed as Director of Community Engagement); John Ciccone, President; Edward Owusu, Principal; and Matthew Blandin, Athletic Director.
