Grannie Annie's Child Care & Learning Center has been serving families since 2003. The program describes its approach as “cozy care and quality education” and uses the MSDE-approved curriculum Investigators Club, which covers language, math, science, social studies, and the arts through eight units in the preschool and pre-kindergarten program. Children’s learning continues through the summer with a camp theme that changes each year, and the summer camp for school-agers includes a different theme each summer along with local field trips such as swimming, bowling, jazzercise, movies, Amazing Athletes, cooking, and visits to the park. The program also offers a big field trip every other week in the summer that connects to the theme, with examples including Wolfgang Candy Factory in York, Pennsylvania during an “Around the World” theme and the Air & Space Museum in Chantilly, Virginia during an “Up, Up and Away” theme.
The center uses a small class size of three children in the Bee's Room for infants and toddlers and provides a written daily note for parents and teachers to communicate about the child and the child’s day. Staff conduct regular observations of children to track progress and support growth toward the next milestone. The Caterpillar Room focuses on social and emotional skills, group interaction, taking turns, sharing, and self-help skills such as potty training and dressing. The after-school program includes snack, play time, homework time, seasonal activities, arts and crafts, board games, manipulatives, and outdoor play on a large, shady playground, and extra-curricular options such as Soccer Shots are available.
Grannie Annie's Child Care & Learning Center utilizes the MSDE-approved Investigators Club curriculum and exceeds the MSDE Office of Child Care requirements for teachers. All teachers hold their Maryland Child Care Credential, with most at level 4 or higher, and teachers take part in many continuing education opportunities. The playground is described as roomy with tall trees that provide shade and space for children to run, climb, kick, pedal, and dig, with summer water exploration and sprinkler play, winter outdoor play with hats and boots in the snow, and picnic tables used for snacks or lunch outside on spring and fall days.
The owners, Ann Golueke (“Grannie Annie”) and Ruthi Claytor, each have more than 22 years of experience caring for children of all ages. The program’s mission is to create an environment where parents and caregivers work together in the development of children and to provide each child the chance to grow in a safe, loving, healthy, and imaginative atmosphere.
Grannie Annie's Child Care & Learning Center provides transportation to and from public half-day pre-K programs at Riviera Beach, Sunset, and Solley Elementary Schools, and offers before and after school care for these same schools with transportation included.
