About

Play By Play Sports Broadcasting Camps focuses on hands-on sports media activities such as Sports Talk Radio, podcasting and interviewing, PTI-style sports debate, Jeopardy and trivia games, sports anchoring, and radio and TV play-by-play. Campers host a variety of their own on-camera sports shows, create sports anchor and sideline reporting videos like ESPN and Bleacher Report, practice sports social media and influencer training, and make reporting videos from professional stadiums across the country. Participants also learn how to report on college and professional sports including NBA, MLB, NFL, NHL, MLS, Olympics and esports games, record play-by-play broadcasts at professional sports events, tour professional sports arenas and broadcasting studios, and take part in virtual hosting, calling games, reporting, and debating.

• Ages: 10–18 years old

Play By Play Sports Broadcasting Camps offers one-week day and overnight sports broadcasting camps in 13 cities across the country for sports fanatics ages 10–18, as well as virtual summer and winter camps, virtual activities throughout the year, private lessons, events, and a Parent Child Weekend in Philadelphia, PA honing all aspects of sports broadcasting. The program also runs an Advanced Workshop, a three-day intensified workshop at MNYK Studios in Manayunk, PA for ages 15 and up who are looking for a more advanced program, and includes three days of hands-on learning at an actual TV studio.

Past instructors at Play By Play Sports Broadcasting Camps have included ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio, Philadelphia Flyers announcer Jim Jackson, Fox Sports’ Ron Burke, NBC’s Jason Dumas, National XM Satellite Radio’s Matt Martucci, and WIP’s Joe DeCamera and Glen Macnow. The program describes itself as the Nation’s #1 Sports Broadcasting Camp since 2002, and states that over the past 20 years, dozens of former campers have made it big as professional sportscasters. The camp notes that it partners with top sports broadcasters, athletes, coaches and more to serve as guest speakers at its camps and programs, and that since 2020 the camp experience has also been available online through Zoom so campers can get the full Play By Play experience from their computer.

Parents have shared that their children were excited and happy each day at Sports Broadcasting Camp and that their children loved camp, with one parent saying their child “loved camp so much more than could ever dream.” Another parent reported that their son had an “amazing experience,” enjoyed meeting guest speakers, learned about the sportscasting world, and asked to return the next year. A third parent described a child who “has been raving about it to anyone that will listen” and thanked the camp for “teaching and inspiring him.”
