About

Play By Play Sports Broadcasting Camps focuses on hands-on sports media activities such as Sports Talk Radio, Podcasting & Interviewing, PTI-Style Sports Debate, Jeopardy and Trivia Games, Sports Anchoring, Radio and TV Play-By-Play, Sports Social Media, Sideline Reporting, and Influencer Training. Campers create sports anchor and sideline reporting videos modeled after outlets like ESPN and Bleacher Report, write their own anchor scripts, and are recorded reading highlights over sports footage. They also host their own sports talk radio and debate shows like ESPN’s Pardon the Interruption (PTI), participate in live podcasts, interview a sports celebrity on camera, and practice hosting shows, calling games, reporting, and debating in virtual formats.

• Ages: 10–18 years old
• Schedule: One-week day and overnight sports broadcasting camps, three-day intensified workshop, and virtual activities offered twice a week for one hour from October 2025–April 2026

During the summer, Play By Play Sports Broadcasting Camps runs one-week day and overnight sports broadcasting camps in 13 cities across the country for sports fans ages 10–18, along with virtual summer camps. The program also offers a three-day intensified Advanced Workshop at MNYK Studios in Manayunk, PA for ages 15 and up, where participants learn for three days hands-on at an actual TV studio. Since 2020, the camp experience has also been offered online via Zoom, including virtual summer and winter camps, virtual activities throughout the year, private lessons, and events, plus a Parent Child Weekend in Philadelphia, PA focused on sports broadcasting.

Campers learn how to report on college and professional sports including NBA, MLB, NFL, NHL, MLS, Olympics, and esports games, and they record play-by-play broadcasts at professional sports events. They tour professional sports arenas and broadcasting studios, attend a Major or Minor League baseball game depending on league schedules, and broadcast play-by-play of World Series, NBA Finals, and Super Bowl matchups with a top play-by-play announcer. The program includes sideline reporting lessons, in-studio reporting, and practice in sports social media, podcasting, and entrepreneurship.

Play By Play Sports Broadcasting Camps provides individual instruction from top professional sportscasters, and past instructors have included ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio, Philadelphia Flyers announcer Jim Jackson, Fox Sports’ Ron Burke, NBC’s Jason Dumas, National XM Satellite Radio’s Matt Martucci, and WIP’s Joe DeCamera and Glen Macnow. The organization states that it has been “The Nation’s #1 Sports Broadcasting Camp Since 2002,” and notes that over the past 20 years, dozens of former campers have gone on to work as professional sportscasters at professional outlets. The program also partners with top sports broadcasters, athletes, coaches, and others as guest speakers at its camps and programs.

Parent feedback includes comments that a child “loved camp so much more than could ever dream,” that a camper “loved meeting all the guest speakers and learned all about the sportscasting world,” and that a camper who “says he hates everything” had “an amazing experience” and has been “raving about it to anyone that will listen.”
