Kids After Hours Summer Camps is part of a family-run program founded by Bob and Tammy Sickels. The leadership team includes Bob Sickels (The Big Cheese), Bret Sickels (The Little Cheese), and John Fuller (Executive Director). Kids After Hours began in 1989 with 22 kids at Burtonsville Elementary and has been caring for kids and supporting families for over 35 years, including 36 years of operation and serving more than 4,000 families or children annually. The program serves thousands of families across over 27 locations in Montgomery and Carroll Counties, including 27 schools, and offers flexible schedules and full-day camp options. Its mission statement is: “We Help Everyone. We Care Always. And We Have Fun Doing It!” Kids After Hours describes itself as more than just before and after care and as a family, and notes that many staff members were once K.A.H. kids themselves.
Parents describe Kids After Hours as having kind, caring, enthusiastic, phenomenal, and excellent staff, and mention that counselors greet children enthusiastically and by name. Parent comments highlight the variety of fun, creative activities, flexible drop-in options, flexible scheduling, good hours, and communication from the main office. Parents also note that the program is open on half days and days off, is open until 6:30pm, and that their children enjoy activities such as singing, dance, and arts and crafts, as well as special events like Kids Night Out and planned activities on days when school is closed.
