About

Kids After Hours offers before and after school programs that include STEAM projects, arts and crafts, outdoor play, and team-building clubs. The program also runs Kids Night Out events, School-Break Programs, and Skate Lessons.

• Ages: 5–14 years old
• Schedule: Before and after school, with morning hours typically from 7:00am (or 7:30am at Westbrook Elementary) until the start of school, and afternoon hours from school dismissal until 6:30pm

Kids After Hours began in 1989 with 22 kids at Burtonsville Elementary and was founded by Bob and Tammy Sickels. The program is family-run and led by Bob Sickels (The Big Cheese), Bret Sickels (The Little Cheese), and John Fuller (Executive Director). Over more than 35 years, Kids After Hours has served thousands of families across over 27 locations in Montgomery and Carroll Counties, with more than 4,000 children or families served annually. Its stated core values are: “We Help Everyone,” “We Care Always,” and “We Have FUN,” and these values are described as guiding everything the program does.

Parents describe Kids After Hours as having kind, caring, enthusiastic, and phenomenal staff, and several note that their children do not want to leave at pickup time. Parent comments highlight the variety of fun, creative activities, including options on days when school is closed, and mention Kids Night Out as a feature they appreciate. Multiple parents mention flexible scheduling and hours, including being open on half days and days off from school and staying open until 6:30pm. Individual staff and site leaders such as Will, Yasmin, Lavar, Queena, Chris, and Annecia are specifically praised by name in parent testimonials.
