About

After-school Writing Lab offers FREE weekly workshops where students explore their creativity through writing. During each session, students work in small groups with peers and adult volunteers to brainstorm, write, revise, share, and draft an original story. The program also includes collaborative writing exercises and time set aside for individual writing projects.

• Ages: 8–14 years old
• Schedule: Weekly summer sessions in 2026
• Price: FREE weekly workshops

Students participate in a year-round After-school Writing Lab and work in a safe and supportive environment for writing. The Ypsilanti Writing Lab program gives priority registration to students who live in the Ypsilanti area, including Ypsilanti Township and Superior Township, or who attend a public or charter school in Ypsilanti. Students who do not meet the Ypsilanti priority criteria are automatically placed on a waitlist and are contacted with an update on their registration status one week before the program starts. Weekly commitment and program registration are required, and filling out the registration form does not guarantee a spot in the program, as an email confirmation is required. 826michigan is part of The 826 National Network, which includes locations in Valencia, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, Washington, D.C., New Orleans, Minneapolis–St. Paul, and a National Office. Community members can get involved through volunteer opportunities and donations, and can also visit the Robot Supply Store online at onwardrobots.com.
