About

After-school Writing Lab offers weekly workshops where students brainstorm, write, revise, and share their work. Participants draft an original story, take part in collaborative writing exercises, and work on individual writing projects. Students work in small groups with peers and adult volunteers during these free weekly workshops.

• Ages: 8–13 years old
• Schedule: Weekly after-school workshops during set multi-week sessions
• Price: FREE weekly workshops

The program includes an Ann Arbor After-school Writing Lab that meets on Mondays from 5–6 p.m. from January 26 through April 20, with no sessions on February 16 or March 30. It also includes a Ypsilanti After-school Writing Lab that meets on Tuesdays from 5:30–6:30 p.m. from January 20 through April 7. Weekly commitment and program registration are required, and filling out the registration form does not guarantee a spot in the program.

For the Ypsilanti Writing Lab, priority registration goes to students who live in the Ypsilanti area, including Ypsilanti Township and Superior Township, or who attend public or charter school in Ypsilanti. Students who do not meet the Ypsilanti criteria are automatically placed on a waitlist and are contacted with an update on their registration status one week before the program starts. After-school Writing Labs are part of 826michigan, which is in the 826 National Network.
