Family Learning Institute is a volunteer-driven nonprofit dedicated to providing free tutoring for low-income students in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti, helping them achieve grade-level reading proficiency in grades 2–5. The organization’s leadership team includes Executive Director Sharine Buddin and Academic Director, Ann Arbor, Mary Collins, along with Academic Director, Dicken Elementary, Deborah Joseph, and Director, Ypsilanti, Caroline Nathans. Additional team members include Program Administrator and Graphic Designer Jennifer Melchi, Writing Teacher, Ann Arbor, Donna Ramsey, Program Assistant Director, Ypsilanti, Catherine Murau, Program Staff, Ypsilanti, Susan Gitterman, Data Administrator Susan Johnson, Technology Manager Larry Krueger, Finance Assistant Mary Maynard, Librarian Marcia Sage, and Co-Founders Lefeist Galimore and Doris Sperling. Family Learning Institute took part in a public event in 2024 for The Literacy Coalition of Washtenaw County's Family Literacy Initiative Campaign.
