About
Joy of Coding offers self-paced coding and AI courses where students work through activities such as intro to coding and computational thinking, intro to data visualization and AI, and using Python to learn how coding powers Snapchat, TikTok, Instagram, and Siri. The program includes options like coding Snapchat lenses, intro to training, evaluating and fine-tuning an AI, applied computational linear algebra for machine learning, intro to deep machine learning, computational machine learning, intro to linear programming, and intro to computational linear algebra. All courses are online and self-paced.
• Ages: 13–18 years old
• Schedule: Students can enroll through the end of July, start anytime after June 17, and finish at their own pace by August 28; courses run in 6- and 8-week self-paced formats, including specific 6-week and 8-week asynchronous, online-only options.
• Price: $149 plus tax. Need-based financial aid available.
Pre-college and college-bound high schoolers can take college-level courses from University of Michigan Engineering faculty through Joy of Coding, with courses created for high schoolers and no prior coding experience required. Basic requirements include being age 13 or older, having taken and enjoyed Algebra, understanding variables and functions, understanding basic manipulations of functions and variables, and knowing how to compute f(0) and f(1) when, for example, f(x) = sin(x). Upon completion of a course, students receive a certificate of accomplishment from University of Michigan ECE to include in college applications, and they join a community of over 5000 students from 50 states and more than 25 countries who have taken the course.
The instructional team includes instructor and professor Raj Rao Nadakuditi, with individualized support from University of Michigan professors and students. Prof. Nadakuditi is an award-winning researcher and teacher dedicated to making computational subjects accessible to individuals of all ages and from all disciplines. His awards include the Jon R. and Beverly S. Holt Award for Excellence in Teaching, the DARPA Directors Award, the DARPA Young Faculty Award, the IEEE Signal Processing Society Best Young Author Paper Award, the Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Award, and the Air Force Research Laboratory Young Faculty Award.
Joy of Coding serves students worldwide from Ann Arbor, Michigan.
