About
The Broadway Intensive focuses on learning scenes, music, and choreography from a Broadway show. Students also learn dance and take part in a group performance that features the work of all students at the end of each week.
• Ages: 7–17 years old
• Schedule: One-week sessions, Monday–Friday, 10am–3pm
• Price: Enrollment Fee: $375 per session.
Each listed session runs for one week, with options from June 16th–20th, June 23rd–27th, July 7th–11th, and August 11th–15th. Each year, students learn scenes, music, and choreography from a different Broadway show, and in the referenced year the shows are LEGALLY BLONDE and JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH. Campers are grouped according to age, and groups rotate throughout the day to learn music, scenes, and dance. The week ends with a group performance featuring the work of all students on Friday at 2:30 pm.
Since 2014, The Broadway Intensive has partnered with the Pioneer High School Theatre Guild to present a summer camp for students interested in performing, and it also partners with Randazzo Dance Studio. Chelsea Packard and Geoff Packard are the co-founders. Chelsea and Geoff are Broadway actors on the faculty at the University of Michigan, and University of Michigan Musical Theatre students serve as camp counselors and teaching assistants. Chelsea has performed on Broadway in WICKED, BEAUTIFUL (The Carole King Musical), PROMISES PROMISES, and HANDS ON A HARDBODY, and Geoff has performed on Broadway in PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, ROCK OF AGES, MALTILDA, and BANDSTAND, as well as on the National Tours of PHANTOM and WICKED. Geoff recently worked on the directing team of the Broadway musical THE HEART OF ROCK AND ROLL, which opened in April 2024. Chelsea teaches private voice in the Musical Theatre Department at the University of Michigan, and Geoff teaches acting, directing, and performance classes in the Theatre and Musical Theatre Departments. As a fun fact, Chelsea has played Elle Woods in a regional production of LEGALLY BLONDE and Miss Ladybug in a regional production of JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH. Summer 2026 information will be posted on the program’s page and emailed to subscribers in January, and registration will open February 1st.
