About
North American Taekwondo and Hoijeon Moosool Academy offers Kukki Taekwondo, Kids Taekwondo, Adult Taekwondo, Hoijeon Moosool, self-defense, demonstration, and modern sport classes. The program includes separate classes for kids and adults, as well as beginner, advanced, and all-ranks options in Taekwondo and Hoijeon Moosool.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Weekly class options on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, plus some Tuesday and Thursday classes, with a 9-week session format
• Price: 9 weeks for $99
The academy offers a New Student Special of 9 weeks for $99. Grandmaster Johnson leads the program and has been teaching martial arts since 1959. The Taekwondo program focuses on forms, sparring, and a rich technical understanding of the Taekwondo discipline, with stated goals of fitness, stamina, flexibility, and character development. Hoijeon Moosool is described as a modern martial art founded on Korean Hapkido principles that focuses almost exclusively on simple and practical self-defense techniques for a variety of situations, with power de-emphasized so techniques can be used with minimal strength and effort. The Children’s Taekwondo program is specifically described as aiming to instill good character habits, promote fitness, and develop a sense of hard work and accomplishment while still being enjoyable, with the phrase “Develop Mind + Body Build Lifelong Skills” included in the mission statement.
One parent, Christina G., reports that her son began classes with a six-week certificate, developed a strong interest in Taekwondo, and, over 11 months, showed changes in school work and self-confidence, and she describes Grandmaster Johnson and the staff as wonderful, helpful, and in tune with teaching the sport.
