The Albert Lea Family YMCA has been supporting the Albert Lea community for over 110 years, with its organization first incorporated in 1914, the YWCA organized in 1928, both moving into the current building in 1972, and officially becoming the Albert Lea Family YMCA in 1975. The mission of the organization is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all. Volleyball and basketball were both invented at the Y, and the Y has been a place to hone volleyball skills for nearly 130 years. The leadership team includes CEO April Jeppson and Senior Director of Programs Brandy Schewe, along with directors for member services, aquatics and safety, camps, wellness, and ForeverWell, and a volunteer board that includes roles such as Chief Volunteer Officer, Vice Chief Volunteer Officer, Treasurer, Secretary, and Heritage Foundation Liaison.

Parents have shared that their family has liked the kids programs at the Y and appreciated smaller group sizes for a 1st grader learning basketball skills. Another parent has said that every program their son has attended, from summer care to basketball courses to swimming lessons, has been great, and that the instructors have been patient and knowledgeable.
