FHIT Hockey was established in 2005 as a community for hockey players to learn, develop, and advance to the next level in hockey and life. The program offers clinics, seminars, dedicated training facilities, full-time professional coaches and staff, and educational resources on a flexible schedule. Its stated mission is “Inspire Lives Through Hockey,” with an emphasis on expert coaches, quality training programs, and guidance to help open up the doors of opportunity for young people.
The leadership team includes Lead Instructors Jake Lainesse and Nick Blanchette, and Northwest (STMA) Campus Director Randy Murphy. Staff credentials include 60+ years of professional playing experience in over 15 different professional leagues, 60+ years of collegiate coaching and playing experience, and 30+ years of Junior A experience in leagues such as the USHL and NAHL. Individual staff achievements include a Minnesota Mr. Hockey Winner, NCAA Division National Champions, an NHL First Round Draft Pick, and a Hobey Baker Leadership Award. Additional credentials and awards listed include NA3HL top prospects team, regular season championship, regular season and playoff championships, and two National Tournament Appearances.
Strength and conditioning coach Jake Lainesse graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s in Kinesiology and a minor in coaching, and has worked with Tier 1 and Tier 2 youth, high school, and men’s and women’s college club hockey teams for 2 years. He has also officiated at many junior levels and in two Division I NCAA conferences, the Atlantic Hockey Conference and the CCHA, and was chosen to officiate the 2021–22 Southern Professional Hockey League championship series. Coach Nick Blanchette won the Hobey Baker Leadership Award given to seniors who best represent leadership and on-ice performance and has spent the last three years coaching the Minnesota Moose in the USPHL Premier league, leading the team to two National Tournament Appearances.
FHIT Hockey Programs offer clinics dedicated solely to the development of individual skills, as well as private sessions and groups to develop players. Memberships are offered in Blaine, Hudson, and Plymouth, with unlimited access to state-of-the-art facilities and a flexible and continuous schedule for athletes. The program includes a Mental Skills Curriculum, dynamic strength and conditioning tailored for hockey players, and an elite culture, with a variety of levels and types of training offered to individuals, teams, leagues, and organizations.
Parent and player feedback includes comments such as, “Working with smart coaches and trainers to improve my game suited my off season work” from Troy M. Another parent, Ted G., shared that all the FHIT coaches did “a fantastic job with players and the program” and noted that his son looked forward to every session and benefited from participation over 7+ months. Sean D. reported that his child felt the coaches “work you hard but not too hard” and focus on the parts of the body needed for hockey and to get stronger, and he appreciated the half days and 3-day weekend format in the summer.
