Braemar Junior Golf Academy includes activities such as putting, driving, short game, chipping, full swing, irons, drivers, pitching, and hitting sand shots. Classes also use coordination exercises like jumping and running, and some instruction includes course strategy, score-keeping, and league play.
• Ages: 3–16 years old
• Schedule: Little Hornets is made up of four 45 minute classes; Hornets After School Instruction & Play includes one hour per week of instruction and one hour per week of league play; the Next Step class includes two hours per week of instruction and one day of league play.
Youth programs are available for ages 3 and up, with Little Hornets for youngsters with little or no golf experience and Green Hornets for young children with or without previous golf experience. Parents or another responsible adult must attend each Little Hornets class with their child to help with safety and organization. Green Hornets includes an introduction to basic rules and etiquette with special attention to safety and following directions, and participants have a chance to get on the Academy 9 course and play. Encourage classes devote more time to etiquette and fairness and provide more detailed instruction, while Develop classes challenge golfers to think of ways they can set a personal goal outside of golf. Instruction classes introduce course strategy and teach score-keeping and track scores to show improvement. Next Step and Advance classes include activities to mold exceptional athletic golfers capable of excelling in golf at the high school level and beyond, and statistics are kept in Next Step to spot weaknesses and evaluate improvements. Advance class is for juniors who already possess solid fundamentals and have the desire to improve their game with the hope of future competitive play. The Tour teaches students how to practice smart, prepare for competition, manage time effectively, and places an emphasis on goal setting while keeping statistics to spot weaknesses and evaluate improvements, with increasing amounts of individual attention for Advance League students. Hornets After School Instruction & Play is for beginner and intermediate juniors who are looking to continue working on their game in the fall, and Jr/High School Tune Up classes are for intermediate to advanced players who are looking to play on the junior high or high school golf team. Registration for Junior Golf Academy classes is through the City of Edina Recreation system.
Braemar’s PGA-certified instructors offer private lessons, clinics, and multi-week academies for juniors and adults of all skill levels. Braemar Golf Course offers a Championship 18-hole course, the Academy 9 par-3 course, and an indoor Golf Dome with Toptracer technology. Braemar’s Golf Dome features state-of-the-art Toptracer technology, indoor simulators, and access to 30 of the world’s most iconic virtual courses, and is open November through April. Braemar Golf Course uses Earth Networks’ real-time lightning detection system to help keep golfers and staff safe on the course. Braemar Golf Course is a City of Edina facility and is a 2025 MGA Member Club of the Year.
