Stars of the North Theater Camp is led by Northern Lakes Arts Association’s professional summer company and guided by professional artists. Scholarships and volunteer-hour tuition credits are available. The camp is described as being for all experience levels and offering a supportive, structured environment where every participant belongs. The teen intensive is described as strengthening acting technique, vocal skills, and ensemble discipline while helping teens grow more confident in their voice and leadership, and students are described as gaining pre-professional training that prepares them for advanced high school and college opportunities in a supportive and encouraging environment.

The camp is part of Northern Lakes Arts Association, which produces professional-quality theater, concerts, and cultural events and leads hands-on arts education for youth and adults. NLAA describes its mission as bringing high-quality performing arts camps to the youth of Ely, MN, and surrounding communities, and as a nonprofit dedicated to making the arts accessible, vibrant, and community-centered in Ely and the greater Northland. NLAA connects Mainstage Productions, the Northern Lakes Arts Academy, and Community Arts & Events into one network of programming, and its work includes offerings such as Broadway in the Boundary Waters, youth theater camps, visual arts workshops, and free concerts in the park. Operating support is made possible in part by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council, funded by the state’s arts and cultural heritage funds.
