NMRC Programming & CAD Camps

About
NMRC Programming & CAD Camps gives students hands-on training with programming FRC robots, starting with the foundations of programming and moving through deployment and debugging of projects. Level 1 is an introductory course using Java for command based programming, where students learn Java fundamentals needed for programming, create commands that are the building blocks for both autonomous and teleoperations, and create and iterate an autonomous program to navigate an obstacle course with a ROMI robot. Level 2 is an advanced course where the group tackles problems brought by the students, including review of the command based program model and how to properly format, using a gyro, using encoders, using PID commands, spending time on motion magic and how to migrate that back into the command code, and working with vision (limelight) with motion profiling. The camps also include CAD Level 1, an introduction to CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) using OnShape.
• Ages: 14–18 years old
• Schedule: Programming & CAD Camps June 16-17, 2025; entry level two day course
Camp is for NMRC students who will be in grades 9-12 for the upcoming school year. The overarching goal of these courses is to help prepare students for programming during build season by providing time with experienced instructors prior to build season. This is also a stated opportunity for students to collaborate and connect with other teams so they have resources and connections for working together throughout the season, their high school career, and beyond. The program offers both Level 1 and Level 2 options for groups, and first time attendees are strongly encouraged to register for Level 1, though first time attendees may enroll directly into Level 2 with their coach’s or mentor’s endorsement.
The Northern Minnesota Robotics Programming Camp event allows FIRST Robotics teams opportunities and hands-on training with programming FRC robots. NMRC was founded in 2017 by teachers and robotics coaches, and created its first annual programming camp in the summer of 2018. The NMRC states that its fundamental mission was to help students across its region grow by creating ways to provide them with opportunities.
This annual event is supported by partners Minnesota North College, Paul Bunyan Communications, and the North Country Vocational Cooperative Center. The NMRC and Beltrami County Ag Association have teamed up, and the NMRC partners with R&J Broadcasting to present a weekly robotics show. The NMRC is proud to be the first robotics conference officially recognized by the Minnesota State High School League, and it sponsors and partners with FIRST to put on the Minnesota State Robotics Championship each year.
