Spirit in the Pines was established in 2001, and the property was purchased in 2001. The camp is owned and operated by St. Andrew and offers nine weeks of youth camps and family camps that host up to 120 campers each week, with family camp sessions on weekends. Summertime programming includes age-specific youth camp sessions during the week, and youth and adult retreats are held during the fall and winter months. The camp also offers off-season reservations for groups from September through May and can host up to 90 people in heated cabins in the off-season.
All staff members pass a background check and are lifeguard and first aid certified, and a CNA certified camp nurse is staffed for all youth camp sessions. Every summer Spirit in the Pines hires 12–18 college students to live and work onsite, and volunteer week-long counselor positions are open for students who have completed 10th grade and above. Spirit in the Pines aligns with ACA standards. The leadership team includes Sarah Blasing, Director of Youth Leadership & Outdoor Ministries and Camp Director.
The camp offers a wide-ranging menu with a yogurt bar and/or salad bar available at all meals and has a separate prep area for allergen-free meals. During registration, campers can request smaller cabins, 1:1 staff support, alternate activities, and more. Registration for Summer 2026 will open on December 6, 2025, and all age and grade ranges for summer camps are listed for the grade the child is entering in the fall of 2026. Camp Aspire offers three types of elementary sessions of 2 nights, 3 nights, and 5 nights, Camp Agape is described as the pinnacle camp program for high school students, and Camp Adventure runs land and water Olympic games on Thursdays and has a very special closing campfire.
Spirit in the Pines reports that it hosts over 1,000 people every summer, also described as nearly 1,500 people every summer. About half of summer guests are St. Andrew members, and others are mostly from the southwest Twin Cities metro, with 62% of guests last summer coming from beyond St. Andrew and from over 20 other faith communities. The camp’s mission statement says that all week long counselors and staff build an accepting and inclusive atmosphere, lead fun games, and give inspiring talks around the campfire, and describes Spirit in the Pines as “a place apart, where we can all grow into our best and most authentic selves.” A camper quote reported by the camp states, “camp is the place where I learned that I am never truly alone.”
