Royal Learning Academy classes within Hopkins Community Education Youth Programs are taught by licensed teachers and are funded by the State of Minnesota’s Targeted Services program, with scholars required to attend six full weeks and to qualify and be invited. Freedom School offers a summer of research-based and multicultural curriculum for scholars entering grades 4–9 and their families, includes weekly Parent Empowerment sessions, and ends with an annual Finale session for scholars to showcase their work. Hop-Kids classes are scheduled on evenings and weekends and introduce children to sport fundamentals, play adventures, and STEM skills, while Little Learners & Loved Ones are multi-generational classes for kids ages 2–6 and a favorite adult age 18 or older, with pricing that includes one adult and one child unless noted otherwise. Camp Royal provides breakfast and lunch through Hopkins School Nutrition without separate registration, and all Camp Royal pick-ups and drop-offs take place in the bus loop. Kids & Company is offered in all six district elementary schools and at limited locations on non-school days, allows families to schedule as few as 15 days in the summer, is a DHS Certified Child Care Program, and accepts Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP). Hopkins Community Ed states that it is dedicated to meeting lifelong learning needs for all Hopkins School District residents and students enrolled in Hopkins Public Schools, and Kids & Company states that it believes every child deserves a safe, fun, and enriching environment where they can grow, learn, and thrive. Hopkins Youth Enrichment scholarships are funded in part by contributions from Hopkins families, community members, and local businesses, and families in the CDF Freedom School summer program commit to weekly Parent Empowerment sessions to connect with Freedom School leaders and each other. The leadership team for these programs includes Chelsea Ritland, Dre Jefferson, Lindsey Leseman, Jaleeza Smith-Breedlove, and Sara Chovan.
