Camp Avanti

Camp Avanti is a 6-day, 5-night sleep-away experience for children and adolescents. Campers take part in structured camp activities, including therapeutic horseback riding, high ropes courses, swimming, canoeing, crafts, and field games. They also spend 45 minutes each day in individualized sensory integration therapy in the Wonderlab.

Campers are broken up into cabin groups, based on age and gender identity, consisting of 6 campers and 2 trained counselors. Each day, campers participate in structured camp activities. Campers also engage in 45 minutes of individualized sensory integration therapy in the Wonderlab.

About the provider

Camp Avanti was developed in the early 1980s, and the first camp was held in 1983. Angie Schoeppach, OTR/L is Executive Director of Avanti Therapeutic Projects and Camp Director for Camp Avanti, and Jaymie Stavdal, MS, OTR/L is Continuing Education Director of Avanti Therapeutic Projects. The stated mission on the page is to promote the developmental growth of participating campers.

Due to limited space and the specialized nature of Camp Avanti, all campers and practicum therapists interested in attending must complete an application. Submission of an application does not guarantee a spot. Applications are reviewed to ensure the experience will be a good fit for all who are accepted. Campers are assigned to cabin groups based on age and gender identity.
