About

YWCA Minneapolis Youth Development Programs are part of YWCA Minneapolis, a 501(c)(3) non-profit social services organization established in 1891. The programs are connected with Girls & Youth Programming and the Minneapolis Sports Center at the YWCA Midtown facility, which also includes health and fitness, swimming, and a childcare center.

YWCA Minneapolis is on a mission to eliminate racism, empower women and girls, and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. YWCA Minneapolis serves thousands of people each year through programs and advocacy focused on racial justice, early learning, youth development and wellness, and serves more than 15,000 people annually in the community. It is one of the largest out-of-school time providers in the Twin Cities, serving over 1,300 youth. YWCA ECE is nationally recognized for engaging diverse families. The leadership team includes Shelley Carthen Watson as President and CEO, Lee Friedman as Chief Financial and Operating Officer, and Julie Schlueter Engen as Vice President of Human Resources. Community involvement includes partnering with One Good Deed on a winter clothing drive and Scarf Bombing campaign, and hosting Midtown Strong, a free block party with multicultural music, art, dance, kids’ activities and food. Historically, YWCA Minneapolis opened the first racially integrated swimming pool in the Twin Cities in 1945 and became an affiliate member of Girls Inc. in 2007.
