Great River SC Recreational Soccer offers recreational soccer with small-sided soccer games. The program uses small-sided game modifications such as reduced numbers of players, field size, ball size, and goal size. Recreational soccer in this program emphasizes development, exploration, and fun, and coaches are encouraged to rotate positions so players experience multiple roles, including goalkeeper, with no heading allowed in games or practices.

• Schedule: Each season includes one practice and one game per week, with session lengths of 5–6 weeks depending on the season

Recreational play in Great River SC Recreational Soccer emphasizes equal opportunity, and flexible age-combining is used to help ensure full games and maximize participation. Programs are run by a volunteer board, and one volunteer coach is needed for approximately every eight kids, with volunteers receiving a refund of their child’s registration fee at the completion of the season. The program provides recreational soccer to kids from Monticello, Big Lake, Becker, Elk River, Otsego, Clear Lake, Clearwater, Maple Lake, Annandale, Buffalo, St. Michael, Albertville, South Haven, and more. Programs are accessed and managed via the SportsEngine app, and registration is done individually via SportsEngine through Great River SC’s homepage.
Shin guards are required for all players and must be worn under socks at all practices and games, and no jewelry is allowed, including earring studs from new piercings. Soccer cleats are recommended but not required, and non-soccer cleats such as baseball, softball, or football cleats are not allowed. Each team receives a colored t-shirt at the beginning of each season, and any shorts, socks, and shin guards may be used with it. A soccer ball is required for practices, with size 3 balls used for U5–U8 and size 4 balls used for U9–U12.
