Camp Como includes activities where campers explore the Zoo and Conservatory, help horticulturists care for the plants and gardens, and work on garden design. Campers learn about the challenging world of Zooticulture, go hiking, spend time playing, and observe their surroundings. The program also includes instruction on how to “Leave No Trace.”
• Ages: 4–11 years old
• Schedule: Camp season runs from June 8th through August 21st, with half-day morning and full-day options, plus after care.
• Price: Half-Day Morning Camps for Preschool and Kindergarten: $205; Full Day Camps for children entering 1st–6th grade: $390; After Care: $75 for the week.
Camp Como lists Brigid Murphy as the Camp Coordinator. The program’s stated mission is “to inspire our public to value the presence of living things in our lives.” Como Park, Como Zoo and Marjorie McNeely Conservatory are owned by the City of Saint Paul and are a division of Saint Paul Parks and Recreation. Como Friends Members receive a 10% discount on registration, and scholarship funding is available for families needing assistance with camp registration fees, covering the cost for one week of camp per child and awarded based on application submission order and camp availability, with at least one spot in each camp reserved for campers awarded a scholarship. Camp Care Specialists provide additional support for campers. Campers must be able to toilet, wash, and dress themselves, and families are encouraged to share information such as learning needs, sensory needs, communication preferences, or behavior strategies that work well.
