About
East Side Learning Center Reading Tutoring Programs offers reading tutoring programs that focus on one-to-one supplemental literacy support. The program also includes mentoring relationships between students and adults.
Since 2001, East Side Learning Center (ESLC) has been supporting the community’s most vulnerable children, including those facing barriers to education such as homelessness, poverty, trauma, disabilities, and racial bias. ESLC states that its mission is to empower children to be successful in school, graduate, and succeed in their future careers, and it envisions a community where all children read with pride and joy. The program is rooted in best practices based on current data and the Science of Reading. ESLC has been awarded the Tutoring Program Design Badge from Stanford University's National Student Support Accelerator (NSSA). East Side Learning Center is an affiliated ministry of the School Sisters of Notre Dame and a host site for AARP Foundation Experience Corps. A volunteer described their experience by saying, “The entire experience was witnessing the progress of five pre-fluency children become fluent. It was like witnessing a miracle.”
