• Schedule: Five-day program sessions at the beginning of the summer for kids entering kindergarten through 8th grade in the fall of 2026

Hidden Pines Ranch was opened in 1983 by Claire and Paul Spilseth. In 1997, the Spilseth family sold Hidden Pines Ranch to Gregg and Robin Ellingson, who owned the camp for 19 years. Peter and Kelly Schuna purchased Hidden Pines Ranch in 2016, and the camp is currently owned by Peter and Kelly and their three children, Gavin (19), Reese (17), and Isaac (15). Over 43 years, Hidden Pines Ranch has delivered experiences for campers entering kindergarten through 10th grade. During prior ownership, a garage with a gymnasium and camp office and a number of multipurpose structures were built.

The mission of Hidden Pines Ranch is to “build great kids by teaching skills for life,” and Peter and Kelly have made this their mission in recognition of the camp’s past and present. The camp focuses on providing a safe, fun, and caring summer camp experience where campers feel a sense of belonging and community and are able to build lifelong relationships and connections. The program is described as being passionate about creating an environment that encourages a growth mindset for both campers and staff by providing opportunities for them to challenge themselves, try new things, and expand their comfort zones. Hidden Pines Ranch continues to provide the opportunity for children in their community to experience the magic of summer camp.

Mini Camp is a five-day program at the beginning of the summer for kids entering kindergarten through 8th grade in the fall of 2026, and it is described as a way for new families to get a taste of Hidden Pines Ranch’s Traditional, Bridge, and Middle School camps. The Bridge program, created in 2017, provides campers with a transition from the Traditional program to the Middle School program. The Leaders in Training (L.I.T.) program is a leadership development program for campers entering 9th and 10th grade who have an interest in developing as leaders while working with young children and assisting professional counselors in a variety of ways around camp.

Parent testimonials describe campers coming home “absolutely giddy” after camp days and wishing they could attend every day. Parents report that children who were initially unsure about camp ended up having “a great summer,” discovering passions such as horses and riding, and even wanting to be counselors someday. Several parents mention that their children were sad when camp ended and that they planned to return for more summers. Testimonials also highlight experiences such as camp plays, horse shows where campers demonstrated their riding skills, and end-of-session events like the Tournament of Champions that campers continued to talk about at home.
