About

The Westfield Junior Golf Program includes junior golf instruction with putting, chipping, and practice with short irons, middle irons, and long irons, hybrids, and fairway woods. The program also includes driver practice, learning general golf rules, and learning the parts of a golf hole such as the tee ground, fairway, rough, hazards, and green. During instruction days, kids take part in little contests and later move into a playing phase on the golf course.

• Schedule: Instruction days offer two waves from 9:00am to 10:00am and 10:30am to 11:30am, with swing instruction fundamentals at the driving range on Mondays and Wednesdays through the remainder of June, and a playing phase with tee times open from 8:00am to 9:15am each Monday and Wednesday morning until the end of July.
• Price: The Westfield Junior Golf Summer Program is FREE to attend and participate.

Instruction days are run by PGA Professional Brian Paulson with support from volunteer assistants. The program uses modified junior tees and different starting yardage markers, including junior tees, 200-yard markers, and 150-yard markers. Instruction starts from the hole back toward the tee box, beginning with putting and then progressing through the other clubs, with a focus on using one basic swing for all clubs and on grip, stance, posture, and alignment. The program includes an emphasis on proper etiquette and good sportsmanship, is described as fun golf time with no competition, and gives juniors their own space in the morning. Online sign-up is required, and t-shirt sizes are collected during sign-up so program t-shirts for kids can be prepared. Westfield Golf Club, which runs the program, has been a part of the Winona community since 1923.
