Young People’s Theatre began in 1993 and has been a leader in the performing arts for more than 30 years. The program offers fun, interactive theatre programs for students in grades 3–12, where students learn about directing, stage management, props, music, and the many elements that make theatre possible. Young People’s Theatre (YPT) states that it is a creative home where young artists make extraordinary theatre and that through training, collaboration, and performance, it cultivates artistry, empathy, and a lifelong passion for storytelling. The leadership team lists Josiah Haan as Program Director and Artistic Director. The program describes a strong sense of community with significant parent involvement and notes that parents have been integral to every production by building sets, running the box office, supervising rehearsals, and supporting every performance. Volunteering at YPT is described as a way for parents to be creative, connect with other families, and support their kids in a hands-on way.

Parent volunteers describe their experience with comments such as, “It’s more than just helping out it’s about being part of something creative, something joyful,” and, “My kids are surrounded by positive role models, and I’ve made lifelong friends.” Another parent volunteer states, “I never thought I’d be learning how to sew a costume or build a set now I can do both!” Donor Circles with tiered benefits are listed as Friends Circle, Stars Circle, Designer’s Circle, Director’s Circle – Show Sponsor, and Producer’s Circle – Season Sponsor. For auditions, participants are asked to bring a positive attitude, and a headshot and résumé are optional but encouraged. Before entering the audition room, participants complete a Sign-Up Genius form that includes a link to a karaoke track, which is played through a speaker during the audition, and they also complete a Conflict Form.
