Kansas City Shotokan Karate Club offers traditional martial arts training that includes karate practices, self defense, and fitness. Students work on specific skills such as sanbon gumite practice, Tekki Sandan, Tekki Shodan, yoko-geri kekomi, mae-te, and Jion kata. Participants may observe or participate, and no experience is necessary, with anyone 16 years of age or older welcome to join in karate practices.

Founded in 1966, Kansas City Shotokan Karate Club is one of the oldest martial arts groups in North America and has been an official SKA Dojo since 1966. Senior instructors have a minimum of 30 years’ experience. The club received SKA’s National Dojo of the Year award in 2016. The facility includes approximately 2,800 square feet of natural wood floor suspended on thick rubber shock absorbers, separate men’s and women’s shower and dressing areas, punching bags, maki-wara, Olympic-style Judo/Aikido style tatami mats, a tea room and library, and free parking in the lot behind the building. The program states its mission as preserving, perpetuating, and advancing the legacy of Shotokan Karate for the betterment of the lives of those who train, and to contribute positively to human history.
