Steve & Kate’s Camp has been operating since 1980 and has more than 90 locations. The camp’s stated mission is to give kids freedom in summer by allowing them to choose which activities they do, whom they do them with, and for how long, as a way to be empowered, independent, resilient, and responsible for their own decisions. The program structure allows parents to buy any number of days, send their child any day within the season, drop off and pick up at any time within camp hours, and receive automatic full refunds for unused purchased Day Passes at the end of the camp season; Summer Pass holders receive an automatic refund of the difference if they do not use enough days to justify the cost. All-inclusive rates cover all camp hours from 8:00am–6:00pm, snacks and lunch, and any available activities, with no additional fees beyond these rates, and meals and snacks are included as part of camp cuisine. The camp notes that it has Youngest Camper Support Staff dedicated to supporting the youngest campers, and that families who register will receive a link to a virtual camp orientation before summer with details on what to bring and not bring.

The Media Lab includes film, coding, robotics, virtual reality, and interactive art apps, and the Tinker Lab includes the use of 3D pens. Steve & Kate’s traditions at camp include activities such as Find Chuckie, which uses a rubber chicken, and Friday Pie-Day. Testimonials describe the camp experience from a variety of outside perspectives, including comments from Andrew Stanton, Director of WALL-E, Finding Nemo, and Finding Dory; Apple’s Hot News; Variety magazine; The Washington Post; and the Chicago Tribune.
