About

East Coast Migrant Head Start Project operates 43 educational centers that provide Head Start services to children from migrant farmworker families. The program serves nearly 3,000 children each year through these centers and through partnerships with other non-profit organizations where it does not have a local presence.

• Ages: 0–5 years old

East Coast Migrant Head Start Project was established in 1974 and has 50 years of experience providing Head Start services to farmworker families. Under the leadership of Sister Geraldine O’Brien, Head Start centers were opened along the east coast and mid-west of the United States. The organization is supported by Grant Number 90CM009875 from the Office of Head Start within the Administration for Children and Families, a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Most of its funding comes from an ongoing grant from the United States Department of Health and Human Services. Each year, an external auditor reviews its fiscal policies and audits its financial records, and during a five-year cycle, the funding agency conducts a comprehensive review of operations with special attention to fiscal activity. The program also offers a parent mobile app.
