About

DC Department of Parks and Recreation Programs offers activities, classes, sports leagues, and social networks for District residents. The department operates Fort Dupont Ice Arena with programs and open skate, and it offers hundreds of free programs for recreational purposes. Most of the programs are free for DC residents, and DPR provides a reduced rate on fee-based programs based on income for qualifying families.

• Schedule: Program seasons are organized into Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall with specified registration dates, and summer camp registration occurs separately in early 2026.

The DC Department of Parks and Recreation is an accredited agency, and DC was named the #1 park system in the nation for the 6th year in a row. DPR provides free produce at its urban gardens weekly from May through November 2026, weather permitting, at Edgewood, Lederer Gardens, and Powell Communal Farm. The department’s leadership includes Mayor Muriel Bowser, Director Delano Hunter, Director Keith Anderson, and John Stokes.
