About
Camp Takodah Summer Camp is part of the Takodah YMCA and specializes in summer camp, outdoor education, travel programs, and retreats and rentals. Campers at Camp Takodah are prohibited from bringing cell phones and are not permitted to make calls home, and visitors are not allowed except in emergencies or during changeover weekends for 4-, 6-, and 8-week campers. Families can communicate with campers by sending one-way emails and letters, and daily photos of campers are posted on a password-protected SmugMug site.
• Schedule: Spring season runs from April 29th through June 14th.
Nick Wheeler serves as the Outdoor Education Director at Camp Takodah and previously worked for 5 years as Outdoor Education & Conference Director at Camp Lakewood in Missouri. Camp Takodah is operated by the Takodah YMCA, whose stated mission is to help kids reach their full potential by focusing on belonging, autonomy, achievement, and relationships. Camp Takodah has been voted Best Camp in New Hampshire and can host up to 350 campers at a time.
Families may send no more than one care package per child per session, and any food, gum, or candy included will be discarded because it attracts pests and rodents to cabins. Parents and others may send one one-way email per day to each camper, and the office team prints and delivers these messages once per day. Letters to campers are addressed using the camper’s name and cabin number, and staff members are prohibited from friending or interacting privately with campers on social media platforms or online. The camp’s involvement with the Richmond Winter Festival is reflected in a blog post titled “It Takes a Village: Richmond Winter Festival Recap.”
