About

New Jersey Audubon Summer Nature Camps offer outdoor adventures where campers can run and jump and splash while they watch and wonder and be excited about the natural world. Campers take part in inquiry-based, hands-on environmental learning during these camp experiences. Camps range from ½ day to full day experiences.

• Schedule: Camps range from ½ day to full day experiences.

New Jersey Audubon’s nature day camps are NJ State-certified and adhere to the State of New Jersey, Department of Health policy regarding immunization. New Jersey Audubon membership is required to sign up for camps, and summer camp registration is centralized through the ACTIVE Network. NJA must have a physician-signed medical form and proof of immunization uploaded to the child’s ACTIVE portal one week prior to the camp session. Camps are held rain or shine and have indoor space as needed, and campers should bring appropriate clothing such as a raincoat and boots for rainy day activities. NJA welcomes children with special considerations and will make reasonable accommodation to include them.

NJ Audubon was founded in 1897, and its stated mission is to “Inspire and empower people to care for nature throughout New Jersey and beyond.” The organization lists a leadership team that includes Alex Ireland, Ph.D., President and CEO; Kimberly Armenti, Vice President of Development and Communications; Mark Carmichael, Chief Financial Officer; Kelly Wenzel, Director of Stewardship; David Mizrahi, Ph.D., Vice President of Research and Monitoring; Brett Ewald, Director of Cape May Bird Observatory; and Allison Mulch, Director of Education, along with an Executive Committee of the Board of Directors. NJ Audubon’s nature day camps are described as NJ State-certified, and NJA camps are State of New Jersey-certified.

Thanks to support from PSEG, the Wings to Wonder program removes barriers that can prevent children in underserved communities from accessing high-quality outdoor education. Wings to Wonder provides summer camp access awards for children within the PSEG service area to attend New Jersey Audubon’s Lorrimer and Scherman Hoffman nature camps, and each Wings to Wonder award covers a week of camp tuition and a stipend to purchase lunch items.
