About
Min's Academy of Gymnastics and Multiple Arts (MAGMA) offers gymnastics, martial arts, dance, and tumbling. The program also includes a safety and awareness class called SPOT (Safety Preparation Observation Techniques) and a FANTASTIC 4 (Fun, Fit, Fast, Flexible) class for students.
• Schedule: Practice hours are offered Monday through Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
• Price: Summer Camps $199 & Up
MAGMA states that it is designed with a passion and philosophy to provide an athletic environment for girls and boys to improve their mind, body, and soul through the enrichment of gymnastics, martial arts, dance, and other physical activities. The program includes multiple locations where students may attend any gym.
Owner and coach John Min leads the program. His background includes attending five different universities and studying formal lessons in dozens of sports and activities while traveling the world and studying under masters and PhDs. His history in gymnastics and martial arts includes starting martial arts training in 1979, receiving black belts in Kung-fu and Hapkido in 1983, starting his first MAGMA school in 1984, and coaching and training at various gymnastics facilities and universities from 1985 onward. His roles have included positions such as Pennsylvania State Board Member, USAG Judge Certification, State Clinician, United States Elite Coaches Association Video and Information Chairman, and Ambassador Coach of Gymnastics Education for Tumbl Trak.
MAGMA uses what it calls a Western and Eastern philosophy and follows the SPQR motto: Safety Before Skills, Progress Before Problems, Quality Before Qualms, Respect Before Repetition. The program states, "We do not coach levels or scores, we coach the child!" John Min has created a training system that allows individuals to choose the amount of commitment and hours regardless of level or program, with the stated goal of avoiding injury, mental fatigue, physical burnout, spiritual decline, and other issues that compromise the athlete. His method is described as eliminating fear and doubt through SPQR techniques and focusing on root skills, physical and mental preparation, and individualized progressions.
The program offers flexible schedules, all levels and ages, makeups, outings, and benefits. The first class is always free if room is available. All students must take a mandatory SPOT safety and awareness class during the year and at least one FANTASTIC 4 class during the semester as a prerequisite. There is no fee for SPOT and FANTASTIC 4 classes, and if room permits, students may take additional FANTASTIC 4 classes at no charge. The program offers free safety and fitness classes to all students to improve and maintain their progression at MAGMA.
