Master Paul Prendergast founded Paul Prendergast Karate Schools in 1989 and has been in the martial arts for 43 years, with over 35 years of teaching experience. The leadership team includes founder Master Paul Prendergast, Master Andrew, and Sensei Pat. The school teaches an eclectic system of martial arts founded on the principles of teaching excellence, personal attention, and tradition, combining the best of many styles into a blended system. The main goal of the karate classes is to enhance self-esteem through building self-confidence and character and by developing a sense of respect for others, in addition to teaching self-defense skills. The physical skills are described as a foundation for the development of value skills, both mental and spiritual. Paul Prendergast Karate has provided karate classes to Ocean County residents for over 25 years and is described as one of the most respected karate schools in NJ. The program features professionally trained and highly qualified instructors, karate classes for kids that use interesting and enjoyable methods to keep students’ attention, an MMA training system to develop well-rounded students who can defend themselves quickly and easily, and a well-balanced “street-smart” self-defense system.
Paul Prendergast Karate is involved in the community through charity work, training local law enforcement, and conducting demonstrations at local schools, and is described as part of the fabric of Ocean County. One parent from Toms River, NJ, states that no matter how large a class is, no child gets lost in the shuffle and that the instructors are more like mentors and role models for their son. Another family reports that their child, who was suspected of having mild audio processing disorder, made a “total 180 change,” became very respectful, and loves going to class, and they specifically mention Master Andrew and Sensei Pat. A parent from Brick, NJ, shares that their children enjoy their classes and often talk at home about the lessons of the week, and thanks the school for helping foster values and character in their children.
