• Schedule: Center and Fort Lee location open Monday–Saturday with daytime and early evening hours; Demarest Robotics LAB and STEM camp hours vary based on camp schedule
THE R CHILD started in a small studio in Cliffside Park, New Jersey, in 2016 and reports 9 years of experience and more than 6000 children served. The leadership team is headed by founder Mrs. Elena Melamed, a classically trained musician with a master’s degree from the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory. The program states that it follows the Reggio Emilia approach and uses an innovative curriculum that combines STEAM and Montessori-based learning approaches, with every class exposing children to music, art, science, history, and cultures through play and activities.
The R Child STEAM Center describes its instructors as highly qualified and experienced educators and notes that 14 schools in New Jersey work with the program. It is a STEM-accredited program with award-winning robotics teams and offers personalized learning, Summer and Day Off School camps for ages 5–16 throughout the year, and a unique party option with customized art, math, and science themes. The program also notes that municipal parking is available near some locations and on-site parking is available at the Demarest location.
Parent testimonials describe teachers as knowledgeable, energetic, patient, and supportive, and mention that the owner is hands-on and involved. Several parents highlight Lego Robotics, Minecraft coding, and Little Explorer classes, and specifically mention a teacher named Rebecca as very professional and sweet. Testimonials also mention that the space is clean and that one family’s baby joined the Baby Explorer class at nine months old.
