The Metuchen Preschool offers a play-based program with activities such as art, music, science, social studies, math, circle time, dramatic play, daily gross motor activities in a large indoor gym, and outdoor play on the playground. Children take part in themed units including All About Me, Apples, Pumpkins, Trees & Leaves, Arctic Animals, Dinosaurs, Hibernation, Holidays, Butterflies and Ladybugs, Flowers, Community Helpers, Space, and Transportation. Special events and extras include a chick hatching project, visits from Dennis Thomas the Magician and The Lizard Guys, Rovers Soccer, a dentist visit, a firetruck visit, field day, music & movement, school parties for Halloween, the winter holidays, Valentine’s Day, and the end of the year, as well as a student Winter Concert and an End of Year Celebration Concert.

The Metuchen Preschool is a non-denominational, progressive, play-based, non-profit preschool serving families with children ages two and a half through six, with students placed in class according to their birthday and remaining together for the school year, moving to the next grade in September. The curriculum is play-based and focuses on cognitive, social, physical, and emotional development, with an emphasis on cooperative play, sharing, understanding, respect, and celebrating each child’s individuality. The program provides a daily snack, offers an optional Pizza Friday lunch that includes a fruit, vegetable, and dessert, and is described as an allergy friendly school.
All classes are staffed and taught by experienced teachers who receive pediatric CPR and First Aid training, and all staff members undergo a background check and fingerprinting. The Metuchen Preschool is licensed by the New Jersey Department of Children and Families (CCC121612) for children two and a half to six years old and admits students of any race, color, and national or ethnic origin. Parent-teacher conferences are held in January, with progress reports sent home in the fall and spring, and vision and speech screening is available at no cost for 3-, 4-, and 5-year-olds with parent permission.
The school welcomes students from Metuchen, Edison, Woodbridge, South Plainfield, Piscataway, and other surrounding towns. Parents are invited into the classroom for birthday celebrations to read a book, and during the school year they are encouraged to visit to talk about holidays or celebrations that are important to their family. A sibling discount is available for two or more students registered at the same time.
Mommy, Music and Me is a no-cost class for children 8 months to two and a half years old, open to both enrolled and non-enrolled families with advanced registration, and runs on Tuesday mornings from 9:30–10:30 during the school year, with 30 minutes of music and 30 minutes of open play time in the gym. Summer Fun Camp is theme-based, runs for six weeks, and is available to students who are 3, 4, 5, and currently in kindergarten, with the option to sign up for any or all weeks.
The building includes classrooms, a lunch room, and a gym on the main level that are accessible with a stroller, and the school is cleaned throughout the day and every evening. The facility uses a full security system with monitored indoor and outdoor cameras, and doors remain locked during the school day.
