Keys 2 Success was established in 2016. Its mission is to bring quality music education to students starting in Pre-K in the most underserved areas of Newark through free, daily piano lessons delivered in a group setting in the students' own environment, where teachers and volunteers work to remove barriers and support students as they develop into future leaders.
The leadership team includes Founder Dr. Jee-Hoon Krska; Board President Onieka Sutton; Board Member Martha Baez; Board Member Phil Bingham; Board Treasurer Renée Simms Frank; Board Secretary Kristin Lorenzo; Board Member Wander Richardson; and Piano Faculty and Director of Student Services, Patricio Apaez. Dr. Krska pursued a Ph.D. in electrical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, enjoyed a career in the semiconductor industry, and continued her piano studies as a scholarship student in the Juilliard pre-college program under Olegna Fuschi. Martha Baez earned an MPA from Rutgers University, Newark with honors (Pi Alpha Alpha) and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from The City College of New York. Onieka Sutton earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Dartmouth College and holds a Certificate in Adolescent Advocacy from Montclair State University and a Violence Against Women Certificate from Rutgers University School of Social Work. Kristin Lorenzo received her undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University, an MBA from Babson College, and is a CFA charterholder. Patricio Apaez attended Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana for his B.A. in piano performance.
Keys 2 Success operates in the most underserved areas of Newark. Dr. Krska contributes to Arts Ed Newark and advocates for diversity and inclusion in various organizations, and is an active member of the Junior League of Summit and the Summit College Club. Renée is a core volunteer at Bridges Outreach focused on Newark outreach runs, leads Bridges’ Teens Tackle Homelessness program, and is a Meals on Wheels volunteer through Sage Eldercare. Wander Richardson is a Citizen Emergency Response Team member and a former board member for People with Homes, and her community involvement includes being a member of Newark Resident Public Safety and volunteering transportation for seniors using walkers and canes.
