North Plainfield Recreation offers a wide range of activities, including Summer Camp, Hatha Yoga, NFL Flag Football, Cheer - Dance, baseball, softball, basketball, soccer, Track and Field, and a Men’s Softball league. The program also coordinates community events such as the 4th of July Parade, Community Day, and Outdoor Summer Concerts. North Plainfield Recreation Summer Camp welcomes campers ages 4 through 8th grade, and the first 100 campers who are paid in full receive a complementary camp kit.

• Schedule: Free Summer Session Hatha Yoga classes on Wednesdays July 8, July 15, and July 22 at 6:30 PM; Recreation Committee meetings on the 1st Tuesday of every month at 7:30 PM

The North Plainfield Department of Parks and Recreation states that it is dedicated to the service and greater good of the community and that its mission is to provide athletic, recreational, and community programs for all ages within North Plainfield and the immediate vicinity. North Plainfield Recreation reports that it provides programs and charities that contribute to the betterment of the Borough and that its goal is to create and maintain a cohesive and synergistic environment for residents. The Cheer - Dance program is described as building confidence, teamwork, and community pride while participants have fun and learn new skills.

Dennis Jackson serves as Director and has remained involved with the North Plainfield Recreation Department for the last 17 years. His background includes a BA in Psychology from Stockton University, participation in Stockton’s first Youth Mentorship Program, work as Youth Coordinator for the Essex County Chapter of The Urban League, and roles as Summer Camp Director and Director of the After School Program for the Black United Fund of Plainfield. He has served as President of the Jr. Canucks Football Program, on the Recreation Committee, and on the North Plainfield Board of Adjustments, and he holds a broker’s license in New York and New Jersey, an F license, and certification as a youth football coach.

Joe Irovando serves as Assistant Director and has over 40 years of dedicated service in the North Plainfield Recreation Department. He oversees operations including equipment, supplies, team organization, and scheduling, coordinates the annual 4th of July Parade, Community Day, and Outdoor Summer Concerts, and has run a Men’s Softball league for over 35 years. He has also worked as an official for Track and Field, baseball, and softball for the last 25 years. North Plainfield notes that it proudly celebrates the courage, dedication, and service of its Hometown Heroes, and that all Recreation Committee positions are appointed by the Mayor and meetings are public.
