Art Seed Studio is a collaborative initiative between founder and lead teacher Angela (Angie) Mikula and her husband Brian O'Leary, who co-direct the studio. Angie Mikula is an artist and art educator with over two decades of teaching experience, is a Penn State alumna with a Master’s Degree in Education from The College of New Jersey, and has attained certification as an International Baccalaureate teacher. She received the Fulbright Distinguished Award in Teaching, which granted her a six-month fellowship at the University of London’s Institute of Education, and has been recognized with the New Jersey Governor’s Teacher of the Year Award in 2019 and the Hunterdon County Teacher of the Year in 2020. Brian O’Leary graduated from Mason Gross School of Art with a BA in Visual Arts and Art History in 1992 and has pursued painting for the past three decades, with a particular focus on painting en plein air using gestural brush work.
The studio’s mission states that it specializes in nurturing creativity through hands-on art experiences for all ages, including weekly art classes, an exciting summer camp, and customizable party packages for birthday parties. Art Seed Studio mentors artists of all ages using top-of-the-line art materials and engaging instruction and allows for an immersive art making experience personalized to individual interests and abilities.
Founder Angie Mikula has taught primarily in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, and at Delaware Township School in Sergeantsville she joined colleagues in establishing a Mindfulness practice for the school community and a Mindfulness garden. Brian O’Leary is a volunteer and consultant in the non-profit space, working with international humanitarian charities on fundraising messaging and branding, and has held roles including Director of Communications at the Rutgers University Foundation, Vice President for Development at the New Jersey Audubon Society, and Executive Director of ARTWORKS in Trenton.
A parent testimonial describes Art Seed Studio as a local place where a child has attended both art classes and a week of art summer camp, and notes that Ms. Mikula is an “awesome instructor” and that the family appreciates continuing to learn and make art with her.
