Toms River Recreation Summer Camps offers indoor and outdoor activities, field trips, and special event days across several camp options, including a school-based Day Camp, a Non-Trip Camp at Riverwood Park, Camp Discovery, and a Theater Camp. Theater Camp focuses on learning to sing, dance, staging, choreography, and how to be comfortable while performing on stage, and it ends with a final performance. Theater Camp participants are asked to wear sneakers or dance shoes and bring a bag lunch.

The school-based Day Camp runs Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm for 6 weeks in the summer, with 2025 dates from June 30 to August 8 and no camp on July 4. The Non-Trip Camp at Riverwood Park also runs Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm for 6 weeks in the summer and does not travel for trips. Theater Camp meets Monday through Friday from 10am to 2:30pm with additional evening rehearsal hours leading up to the final performance.
Children ages 6–13 by the start of camp are eligible for the school-based Day Camp, and children are grouped by age, not grade, in groups of 6–7 year olds, 8–9 year olds, and 10–13 year olds. Each age group in Day Camp is offered approximately seven field trips during the six weeks, and these trips are included in the cost of registration. Various special event days and activities are planned during the camps.
Camp Discovery is a six-week summer program that goes on daily trips to locations such as Sky-zone, Blue Claws, and Medieval Times. Camp Discovery is for children and adolescents with moderate to severe disabilities currently residing in Toms River, and participants must be 7–21 years old, have completed 2nd grade, have a developmental disability, be educated in a self-contained setting, be able to walk without assistance, be potty trained, be able to swim, have an IEP stating eligibility for ESY program, and meet all additional Camp Discovery requirements. Camp Discovery goes on an exciting new trip each day.
No transportation to and from Day Camp, Theater Camp, or Riverwood Camp is offered, and no before or aftercare is available for these camps. Camps are first come first served and often fill within the first few minutes of opening, and waitlisted campers are released only as spots open due to withdrawals. Registration for Day Camp, Park Camp, Camp Discovery, and Theater Camp opens May 7th at 7pm via Community Pass, and the Camp Discovery application is available via Community Pass beginning April 7th.
Due to capacity issues, Day Camp, Park Camp, Camp Discovery, and Theater Camp are open to Toms River residents only. The Toms River Recreation Department thanks the school district for assisting in securing school locations.
