About

Seriously Addictive Mathematics (S.A.M) and the S.A.E Phonics & English Program offer math enrichment and English enrichment through the Singapore Math program and the S.A.E Phonics & English program. In math, children use the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) approach and fun, hands-on activities to learn new math concepts and 12 problem-solving math heuristics, including the bar model method, and solve word problems. In English, children follow a structured phonics approach that simplifies the English language into 44 sounds to learn to read and write, along with systematic and integrated literacy activities using a variety of text types.

• Ages: 4–12 years old
• Schedule: Class options Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings and Saturday mornings

Since 2010, multi-award-winning S.A.M has helped children aged 4–12 years old learn, enjoy and excel in math and English. The S.A.M Singapore Math program is based on the Singapore M.O.E math curriculum with a focus on thinking and problem-solving skills, using the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) approach, fun hands-on activities, and 12 problem-solving math heuristics including the bar model method. The S.A.E Phonics & English program uses carefully structured modules that cover fine motor skill, phonics, reading, comprehension, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, punctuation, structuring text, planning and independent writing, within a well established spiral structure that teaches, consolidates, revisits and strengthens literacy skills at increasingly complex standards of English. The programs use a coaching approach that encourages children to explore and discover, with key areas learned in gradual steps, revised at increasing complexity, and practiced through guided and independent work, and each child follows an individual learning plan with a low student-teacher ratio. Seriously Addictive Mathematics (S.A.M) is the world’s largest Singapore Math enrichment program, with more than 200 centers in 20 countries and counting, and is described as a multi-award-winning thinking math program based on Singapore Math, a global top-ranking curriculum according to international studies TIMSS and PISA.

Parents describe S.A.M as providing a conducive environment where children can maximize their potential in math, with trainers who keep children engaged and support both strengths and weaknesses, as in the case of Tyler (10 years old), whose mother appreciates and commends S.A.M. Grace (10 years old) moved from the middle band to the top band at school and is described as excelling in math after working with patient trainers, tailored learning plans, and worksheets her mother considers good. Beverly (8 years old) is reported to have learned to analyze word problems systematically, draw correct models, and use other methods to solve multiple-step word problems accurately, leading to perfect scores in recent math tests. Trey (11 years old) is said to have improved his test scores from the 50s in grade 3 to the 80s in grade 4 and to have become confident in math after building a good math foundation with patient trainers, which his mother calls the best decision she made that year. Morgan (11 years old) is described as already proficient in math and getting even better at S.A.M, learning different ways to solve word problems and improving in speed, accuracy, and confidence, with encouraging trainers and worksheets her mother finds very well designed. Jaydon (11 years old) is reported to have developed confidence and passion for math, which his mother now calls his favorite subject, after trainers took time to help him fully grasp each topic before moving to questions of increasing difficulty. Charlaine (8 years old) is described by her mother as enjoying fun lessons and heuristics that have honed her thinking skills, allowing her to analyze and solve word problems and present answers concisely, and her mother values that she can solve tricky math questions without memorization.
