Family Respite Care of Nevada offers center-based respite care and activities for children in the Family Center, Jr. & Teen Center, Teen program, and Young adult program. The Family Center serves children from 3 months to 6 years, the Jr. & Teen Center offers bowling, cooking classes, and rock climbing for ages 7 to 12, and the Teen program includes monthly game nights and mini-golf with trained volunteers for ages 13 to 17. The program also includes a young adult program for ages 18 to 28.

Programs

  • Jr. & Teen Center — 7 to 12 years · Offers activities such as bowling, cooking classes, and rock climbing. Designed to encourage social skills and interaction with peers. Also provides respite for families.
  • Teen program — 13 to 17 years · monthly; weekly respite sessions at Jr. & Teen Center · Monthly community activities such as game nights and mini-golf with trained volunteers. Aims to encourage the development of social skills.
  • Young adult program — 18 to 28 years

About the provider

Family Respite Care of Nevada began in October 1995. For 30 years, it has provided more than 300,000 hours of respite for Northern Nevada families, and more than 100,000 volunteer hours have been given by youth volunteers since the organization started. Its mission is to improve the well-being of families in Nevada by providing respite care to caregivers who have children with special needs. The organization also supports families with children with disabilities and their siblings, children in foster and adoptive care, and offers volunteer opportunities for youths in grades 6 through 12, college students, and community volunteers.

Additional services such as outings and special date nights are available for an extra fee. Annual membership fee is $360 for the first child and $180 for each additional child; monthly payments are $35 for the first child and $20 for each additional child, plus a $5 monthly processing fee. Scholarship opportunities are available for families unable to pay the annual enrollment fee.
