Eleftheria Pancyprian Soccer Club was established in 1981 in Astoria, Queens, and is part of an amateur soccer club founded in 1974. It is a nonprofit organization and a community institution rooted in the Greek and Cypriot communities in Astoria, Queens, New York City, connecting generations and preserving cultural identity through soccer. The club’s mission states that from day one, the focus has been to develop players the right way on and off the field, with winning described as important but with development, character, and accountability described as mattering more. The club’s soccer philosophy emphasizes assertive, possession-focused soccer, controlling the game, and creating goal-scoring opportunities through “numbers up” plays, and it uses soccer to teach respect, responsibility, and leadership. The New York Pancyprian Freedoms, connected to the club, is described as a nationally recognized men’s program with a proud legacy of success, and the club’s blue and white colors are said to represent heritage, commitment, and pride.
The leadership team includes Founder Mike Leandrou; Legacy President and Board Member Nick Tziazas; President Parry Ermogenous; Vice President Costas Pavlakos; Second Vice President Phytos Neophytou; Executive Board members Peter Pavlakos, George Varvatsoulis, and George Vlahakis; Executive Director and Zone 1 Director Billy Antoniou; Director of Club Development and Zone 2 Director Paul Kontonis; and Director of Player Development Pano Onisiforou.
